Sunderland manager David Moyes has received a fitness boost ahead of side’s clash with Arsenal in the Premier League tomorrow, he told reporters – as reported by Sunderland’s official Twitter account.

Moyes told his pre-match press conference that Adnan Januzaj has returned to training and could be in contention for tomorrow’s game, while defender Jason Denayer trained yesterday but may just miss out on the meeting with the Gunners at the Stadium of Light.

The Sunderland boss told reporters, as per Sunderland’s Twitter feed: “Adnan Januzaj trained yesterday and will come in today so if we think he’s right we may add him to the squad.

“Jason Denayer trained as well but it may come too soon for him.”

Despite a start to the season that has seen the side just pick up two points from their opening nine games, leaving them bottom of the table – as well as being eliminated from the EFL Cup by Southampton in midweek, Moyes feels there is a bit of confidence surrounding his group of players.

He feels that the side is starting to improve in terms of their performance, and it’s having an effect on the players.

Moyes added: “Confidence is good. They know they are doing better. The results haven’t shown but the last two could have been different.”

It’s a tall order for Moyes’s side this weekend as they face a side that is setting the pace along with others at the top of the Premier League, but at the very least they will be hoping to repeat the result their North East rivals Middlesbrough achieved last weekend, as they got 0-0 draw at the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal will be heavy favourites, but Sunderland need points on the board. Getting something out of the game could at least give them something of a morale boost.
