The Black Cats are currently in the Premier League’s bottom three.
Sunderland manager David Moyes
David Moyes has insisted that Sunderland had been missing Lee Cattermole’s fighting spirit in recent weeks before he made his return to the side last weekend, the Shields Gazette reports.
The Black Cats have made a poor start to the new season. They are currently sat second-bottom in the Premier League, having taken just one point from their opening five games.

And ahead of Saturday’s clash with Crystal Palace, Moyes has explained how having the former Wigan man back – who had undergone surgery for a double hernia (via Shields Gazette) – will provide a boost to the club’s hopes of getting their season properly up and running.
“We need Lee’s experience and that competitive spirit,” he said, as reported by the Shields Gazette.

“We have missed that in some games.”
Though Cattermole’s return was marked with a defeat at White Hart Lane, Sunderland frustrated Tottenham’s creative players on several occasions before Harry Kane finally broke the deadlock.
And while the 28-year-old has a reputation for sometimes getting carried away when it comes to getting stuck in, there is no doubt that his involvement will certainly help the side break down opposition attacks, and give their own attacking-minded players the confidence to stay further forward in areas where they can be most dangerous.
