Sunderland have failed to win any of their first nine Premier League matches.
David Moyes has told the Chronicle that he is convinced that Sunderland’s form will change because their performances in their last two matches have encouraged him.
Sunderland have narrowly lost 1-0 to West Ham United and Southampton in their two most recent fixtures.
And Moyes feels that his side have deserved more than two defeats for the performances that they have put in.
“It will change, because the performances are getting better and they will lead to goals and results,” he said.
“I think the last couple of performances – at West Ham and today – should have merited something. A point at West Ham, and at least taking the game to extra-time today.”
Sunderland were beaten in the last minute against West Ham, when Winston Reid lashed home from just outside the penalty area.
That loss means that the Black Cats have failed to any of their first nine Premier League matches and they sit bottom of the table.
Sunderland’s fixture against Southampton last night came in the EFL Cup, but they were unable to progress to the quarter-finals.
A Sofiane Boufal screamer sent the Saints through, although the match was not without controversy.
Sunderland were denied what looked to be a blatant penalty in the contest, and Moyes was sent to the stands for his protests about the decision.
Sunderland are next in action at the weekend, when they take on Arsenal.
