Didier Ndong has made 13 appearances for Sunderland so far.

David Moyes has insisted to the Sunderland Echo that Didier Ndong will improve with more game time at Sunderland.

Ndong was Sunderland’s most expensive signing last summer, but the midfielder has been very inconsistent during his time at the Stadium of Light to date.

In some matches the 22-year-old has looked excellent, but in others he has been off the pace.

Moyes insists that Ndong will get better, though, and he has called for patience as he looks to reduce the average age of Sunderland’s starting line-up.

“Ndong will improve with experience and games, and that’s why I was so disappointed when Paddy McNair and Lynden Gooch and Duncan got injured, because I’m trying to build a younger team,” Moyes said.

“It doesn’t always look like it because obviously you’re trying to only win the next game.

“We’ve also tried to play some young players and Donald Love did very well and that was part of the duel thing, to try to build the team, try to keep us in the league.”

Moyes has shown faith in Ndong so far, with the Gabonese midfielder regularly starting for the Black Cats.

Ndong has already made 13 Premier League appearances for Sunderland so far this season, and he played the full match in Moyes’ side latest fixture against Watford.

Sunderland beat the Hornets 1-0 to move off the bottom of the Premier League table, and to within one point of safety.
