The Black Cats failed to add in the position on deadline day of the transfer window.
Sunderland manager David Moyes
Sunderland manager David Moyes has insisted to the Chronicle that they will still sign a goalkeeper despite the transfer window closing.
The Scot faced major frustration on deadline day as a number of potential transfer moves failed to come to fruition.
His failure to add a goalkeeper was a particular issue, with the Chronicle reporting the Black Cats made moves for John Ruddy, Wayne Hennessey, and Vincente Guaita without success.
Sunderland’s Jordan Pickford
It leaves them with just youngster Jordan Pickford as their senior goalkeeper after the injury to Vito Mannone.
And Moyes has insisted adding in the position by signing a free agent remains a priority for him as they need cover for Pickford.
“We have an injury to Vito Mannone, we want to give Jordan Pickford a chance to show what he can do, but we will definitely have to bring in cover or someone who can challenge Jordan,” he told the Chronicle.

One option for Moyes could be Premier League veteran Mark Schwarzer, who is without a club since leaving champions Leicester City this summer.
He is not a long-term option given that he is 43 years old, but would provide the kind of cover that Moyes is looking for from any potential signing.
His wealth of experience would also be a huge boost to his side, particularly for Pickford, who could learn a lot from the Australian, even for a short spell.
