West Ham United are due to take on Stoke City on Monday evening.
Hernandez scored in West Ham’s last match against Chelsea with a fine finish, to ensure his side escaped from Stamford Bridge with a point.
But Moyes has claimed that if West Ham continue to play one up-front, as they look likely to do, then Hernandez will have to remain on the bench because he cannot drop Marko Arnautovic at the moment.
“Chicharito has played in other games and scored good goals but at the moment Marko would be hard to move aside if we are playing just one striker,” Moyes said.
“We want competition, though, and Marko needs to know he has to keep his levels up and his standards high.”
Hernandez’s lack of game time this season has caused concern about among West Ham fans.
Hammers supporters are desperate not to see Hernandez leave in the summer, as reported by HITC, but Moyes appears to have reservations over using the forward regularly.
And West Ham fans’ wish to see Hernandez start more, to convince him to stay, does not appear to be about to come true any time soon.
The Mexican international has made just 16 Premier League starts all campaign, and it does not look like he will be adding to that tally on Monday against Stoke City.
If West Ham can beat Stoke it will be a major boost to their survival chances, with Moyes’ side only marginally above the drop zone currently.
