West Ham United manager David Moyes has told Lucas Paqueta that he will not stand in the way of his dream move this summer.
That is according to a report from FootballTransfers.
It claims that West Ham would consider an offer of £85m for Lucas Paqueta and if accepted, Moyes would not get in the attacking midfielder’s way.
Manchester City are the club who are interested in Paqueta, but the Premier League champions have made little progress in their bid to sign him.
According Sky Sports, City have put things on hold and are yet to actually submit an offer for the Brazilian amid a FIFA investigation involving the player. However, Sky’s Kaveh Solhekol has stated that a deal could still happen if the issue is cleared up quickly.
Lucas Paqueta could now stay at West Ham
While Moyes may be ready to let Paqueta go, there seems to be a very good chance of the 25-year-old remaining at the London Stadium.
£85m is obviously a lot of money, so it would not be a surprise to see City end their interest in him.
As of now, the Etihad appears to be the only real viable destination for the Brazil international. So if City pull out because of his price or this investigation, he looks set for another season in east London.
It would not be a terrible outcome. West Ham recently won a trophy, the Europa Conference League, and will now be competing in the Europa League as a result. They are a good club to be at right now.
Of course, joining City would be a massive upgrade. Paqueta would get to work under Pep Guardiola, who is arguably the best manager in the world, and have the opportunity to win the Premier League and Champions League.
It really would be the dream move, though the former Lyon man may have to wait until next summer to achieve it. Still, with the transfer window not closing until next month, anything can happen, especially when a super rich team like City are involved.
