West Ham United fans have been waiting to see some arrivals in the January transfer window.
West Ham’s recruitment in the summer left a lot to be desired – as it has ever since they moved to the London Stadium in 2016.
A large section of supporters have turned on co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold over broken promises on the stadium move and transfers.
The Hammers co-owners said leaving Upton Park for Stratford would take the club to the next level.
But they have regressed on the pitch ever since flirting with relegation.
And the East Londoners find themselves in the thick of it this season despite seemingly turning a corner under David Moyes.
Sullivan pledged to back Moyes with three or four signings this month and West Ham have been linked with more than 30 players so far.
But Moyes had bad news for expectant fans in an interview with the club’s official website.
“We would really like a couple of players in the January window if we could do it but I couldn’t turn around and say to you that we’re guaranteed to do it and I couldn’t turn around and say to you and the West Ham supporters ‘Here we are this is what we’ve got’,” Moyes told whufc.com.
“We’re not there yet. I hope we can do it. I do think I want to make sure we try and bring in the right players who can stay at the club for a while.
“But in the same breath maybe in this window all we can get maybe is a couple of loans possibly and see how they do from there.”
Hardly the most inspiring update from Moyes and supporters will be angry at the meagre prospect of bringing in one or two loan signings.
It is so far removed from the grand pledges made by the West Ham hierarchy when they were keen to convince supporters that leaving Upton Park was a necessity to push the club on.
The reality has left fans bitter, resentful and pointing to the fact that they should have stayed at Upton Park if mere Premier League survival or midtable mediocrity was the best they could hope for.
