West Ham United are currently deeply embroiled in a relegation battle.
Hammers boss David Moyes spoke exclusively to the club’s official website, ahead of his side’s clash with West Bromwich Albion at the London Stadium today, and shared his theory why his players have struggled defensively this season.
West Ham currently sit precariously in 18th position in the Premier League table, having conceded 38 goals so far this term – the second worst tally in the division.
Although the east London outfit have undoubtedly improved since Moyes took the reigns at the start of November, there have still been signs of disarray and ineptness amongst their back four.

The Scot spoke exclusively to WHUFC.com, and explained how individual errors are proving to be detrimental to his side’s chances of moving away from the drop zone:

“I’ve thought we’ve always had the ability to score but we are still liable to concede goals and that’s party down to individual mistakes. I wouldn’t put it down to the unit not being right, but individual mistakes, that was the case at Bournemouth and that’s what we need to avoid.”
Moyes will have to ensure that his side are sufficiently organised this evening, when they welcome the Baggies to the London Stadium for what is a relegation six-pointer.
It could be argued that the Hammers defenders are quite simply not good enough, and that Moyes needs to bolster his ranks this month, but for now he will just have to make do with what he has, and pray that there are not any more individual errors that prove costly for his side, especially during tonight’s game.
