David Moyes hopes to win over West Ham fans with aggressive brand of football.
David Moyes gave his first press conference as West Ham manager on Wednesday afternoon. And he touched on many subjects, including plans for the January transfer window and what type of football he will be offering to the West Ham fans.
The former Everton manager replaced Slaven Bilic after the London club made a poor start to the season, winning only two of their 11 games played so far.
West Ham are currently lying 18th in the Premier League table with only nine points on board.
Moyes was a huge success at Everton. However, he failed badly with Manchester United, Real Sociedad, and Sunderland, and therefore his appointment in a way is a gamble.
He has been given only six months of contract, but reports from the Daily Star suggest that he will be given funds to sign players in January.
Moyes has hinted that he will be looking to integrate young players into the squad, but remained coy on January transfer plans.
“Maybe we have to find ways and room to get young players in. But I’ve been told if we think we need something in January, but I’m not one to judge that at the moment,” said Moyes, as quoted by Sky Sports (live blog; 16:43 pm).
Moyes understands some sections of the West Ham support have met his appointment with negativity, but he wants to win them over with positive results.
He has vowed to take West Ham as far as up the table as they can, and has urged the players to take responsibility as well.
“The best thing to do is win the games, make the supporters get behind the team by the results. We need the players to perform, they need to stand up as well,” Moyes added (live blog; 16:32 pm).
“I’ll do everything I possibly can to get West Ham as far up the table as we can, to try and give them the best team possible. But we need the players to take responsibility as well. It can’t always be the managers who are bad.”
