Sunderland have been in fine form since Anichebe established himself in the side.

Sunderland manager David Moyes believes that forward Victor Anichebe has given the side a platform to build on in games, the Sunderland Echo reports.

Anichebe has found some fitness in recent weeks, and some form, which has coincided with something of a revival for the Black Cats – as they have recorded three wins from their last four games to move within a point of safety.

Moyes is quoted in the Sunderland Echo, saying: “He’s given us a platform to build from.

“Sometimes we alter the roles on the left, right and middle.

“If he keeps that body moving then he’s a hard man to stop.”

Anichebe seems to be helping get the best out of Jermain Defoe while providing a goal threat himself. Prior to Anichebe regularly starting games, it seemed that Defoe was the only real goalscoring outlet in the side.

However, there’s now another focal point to their attack who can provide strength, and out ball as well as a few goals himself.

It relieves the goalscoring burden from Defoe a little and gives opposition defences that bit more to worry about. The only question mark will be about his fitness but if he manages to keep himself in good condition, and if injuries are kind to him, then he’s going to be very effective over the course of the season.

Right now, Sunderland seem to have found a way of playing that is effective and is making their season look brighter than it did just over a month ago – and Anichebe seems to be an integral part of that.
