David Moyes discloses what he told West Ham squad after Burnley defeat

West Ham United suffered another heavy defeat that leaves the Hammers closer to the Premier League relegation zone.

In comments reported by Football London, David Moyes has suggested that he told the West Ham team that they will stick together and will get back to winning ways after their hugely disappointing defeat to Burnley on Saturday.

The Hammers went into the game with the Clarets off the back of two 4-1 defeats that have proved to be the catalyst for turning the mood even more unsavoury at the London Stadium.

It did appear that the Irons may be starting to turn a corner as they made it past the hour-mark against the high-flying Clarets with the game still goalless. However, the floodgates soon opened and the scenes turned ugly as Moyes’ men slipped closer to the bottom three.

The visitors would score three times in 15 minutes to bag the win, and the latter stages of the contest were marred by fans getting onto the pitch and other supporters directing their anger towards the directors’ box.

It is difficult to see where West Ham go from here, but Moyes suggested that his message to the players after the game was a defiant one that they are not going to allow themselves to fall closer to the relegation zone.

“I have told them we are all sticking together, we are going to stick our chests out and go again. We will get back to winning ways, do it quickly, play better for longer periods of the game, certainly defend better and in the short periods we have been under pressure, we coped well up until they scored,” he told Football London.

“We have got attacking players who can score, they didn’t do today. We get back at it and do our job. When I came in, I didn’t think it would be that easy and maybe we are not in our best period of form at this time but I do think we are good enough to stay up.”

It is difficult to know whether it is a positive for West Ham that they do not face another game until the final day of the month. In some ways, having an immediate opportunity to get back to winning ways and put the events of Saturday behind them may have been beneficial.

However, letting the dust settle on an ugly day for the club may be the best way for the Irons to move forward in the short-term. But with Southampton their next opponents, the board probably need to expect a similar amount of anger if it becomes four defeats on the spin.
