Sunderland lost 4-1 to Arsenal in their most recent fixture.

David Moyes has defended his decision to bring on Adnan Januzaj during Sunderland’s match against Arsenal in the Sunderland Echo.

Januzaj was introduced to the match after Sunderland managed to grab an equaliser against Arsenal.

However, the Belgian did not have the desired impact on the contest, as Sunderland slipped to a heavy defeat.

Arsenal scored three times in the space of six minutes to secure a 4-1 victory, which means Sunderland are now winless in their first 10 Premier League matches.

However, Moyes feels that he was correct to bring Januzaj on, as he believed the Black Cats had a chance of picking up the three points.

“Adnan’s just back and we need to try to get his fitness up properly but I wanted to see if we could get his quality into the game to give us a chance,” Moyes said.

Sunderland’s defeat to Arsenal means that they have made the worst start to a season in Premier League history.

Moyes’ men have collected just two points from their opening 10 games, and they are now in danger of being cut adrift.

Sunderland are already seven points away from safety, with their next match coming against Bournemouth at the weekend.
