Sunderland manager David Moyes has told the Chronicle that they are still trying to secure a permanent deal for Yann M’Vila.
The midfielder spent last season on loan at the Stadium Light, signing on a loan deal in the summer transfer window.
He went on to establish himself in the side, playing a key role in their upturn in form and eventual Premier League survival.
The Black Cats had appeared to be keen to bring him back on a permanent basis but so far no deal has been agreed for the Frenchman.

It is thought that is because his current club, Rubin Kazan, are demanding a big fee despite the player only having four months remaining on his contract.
And Moyes has confirmed that they are still trying to agree a deal, although they are also looking at other players.
“It’s a complicated situation but we are trying. We are in for others as well,” he told the Chronicle.
“I’ve got a lot of trust in [chief executive] Martin Bain who has been doing a lot of good work. I do think we will get some business done.”

It appears that the other man the Black Cats are targeting is Sevilla star Vincent Iborra.
The Chronicle reports that they have agreed a price for the midfielder and he is keen on the move, although that deal is unlikely to be completed until early next week.
Should he join, it will be interesting to see if it brings an end to their problematic pursuit of M’Vila, at least for the time being.
