Andy Carroll isn’t doing much for his West Ham United future as of late.

David Moyes has told a press conference that West Ham United striker Andy Carroll needs more protection from the Premier League referees.

The 28-year-old has made headlines for the wrong reasons this past week following his performance in Sunday’s 2-0 defeat away to Watford in Moyes’s first game in charge.

Carroll was fortunate to escape a red card within 28 seconds of kick off for catching his marker with a wild elbow; unforgivable not solely because of how early it was in the game, but because he was sent off for a similar foul against Burnley last month.

The towering forward’s all-round performance was very poor on the whole and West Ham fans appear to have severely turned on him in recent weeks, after the hitman criticised them for leaving early during their heavy defeat by Liverpool.

Moyes claims he has told the maligned figure to modify his game to avoid incurring such fouls, but says that it is “getting ridiculous” how he is always perceived as the perpetrator by the referee.

“He stays up, is hit by two people and gets zero protection,” he told a press conference.

“I’ve said ‘Andy you’re going to have to change and adapt so that isn’t a situation,’ but I think it’s becoming ridiculous.

“It has to stop that in every tackle Andy goes for is a foul, because I don’t believe that’s true.”
