West Ham United have been linked with Tom Cairney, and he was pictured at Stamford Bridge watching their draw on Sunday.

In comments reported by Football London, David Moyes has quashed any suggestion that he knew anything about Tom Cairney attending West Ham’s Premier League clash with Chelsea on Sunday.

Cairney is one of the most highly-rated players in the Championship, having helped put Fulham right in contention for promotion to the top flight this season. And he is also a player that the Hammers have been heavily linked with in recent months.

Sky Sports reported in January that the Scotland international wanted a move to the London Stadium as the Irons pursued his signature, and the Daily Mirror reported last month that the Hammers remain interested and Fulham will be prepared to sell for £20 million if they miss out on promotion.

So unsurprisingly, the image that showed Cairney in the background as David Moyes stood on the touchline at Stamford Bridge left West Ham fans speculating what that could mean regarding their summer chase.

Well, it seemingly means little as Moyes denied any knowledge of Cairney being sat behind him during the game which West Ham would earn a point from.

“No idea., was he? If he was then it certainly wasn’t a ticket from us. I was hoping you were going to say Lionel Messi was sitting behind us,” he said, as reported by Football London.

Of course, Moyes’ comments are unlikely to completely quash all speculation regarding Cairney’s future, but it would a huge surprise if there was anything more to it than Cairney simply going to watch a game that is being played not too far from his own home ground as Fulham still have every chance of securing a spot in the top flight next season and may even be able to secure automatic-promotion.
