West Ham United boss David Moyes has admitted to Football.London that he just can’t afford to sign Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.
The Hammers have been linked with Abraham in recent months, and The Sun claim that West Ham are the favourites to sign him this summer.
Abraham has been out of favour since Chelsea appointed Thomas Tuchel, and The Telegraph suggest that he will be allowed to leave for around £40million.
West Ham do need a new striker having sold Sebastien Haller to Ajax in January, but it sounds like Abraham won’t be heading to East London.
Moyes has suggested that, if the rumoured fee needed to sign Abraham is true, then West Ham will not be in the race to sign him.
“It would rule us out completely. We will be ruled out,” said Moyes. “So if that’s the figure and that’s what’s being said, we are ruled out. We don’t have that money, we don’t have that to buy a striker at that price, no.”
“It may well be [the total spend]. But you never know here. I don’t think we will be making a purchase of that for any one player. I’d be surprised if we were,” he added.

Abraham needs first-team football, and West Ham could have offered that – but the figures just aren’t matching up for the Hammers.
It may well be a similar tale for Newcastle United, after The Chronicle reported that Steve Bruce has asked Chelsea to be kept informed of their plans for Abraham.
Abraham subsequently finds himself in a tough position. Chelsea don’t want him, and the clubs who do want him can’t afford to buy him. The teams who can afford to buy him may be looking elsewhere.
Maybe Chelsea come around to a loan move this summer, which could bring West Ham and Newcastle back into play, but a permanent move seems almost impossible.
