Celtic and Rangers will lock horns on Sunday in their eagerly-anticipated Old Firm derby.
David Moyes had claimed that ‘everybody knows’ the Scottish Premiership title race is over ahead of Celtic’s clash against bitter rivals Rangers.
The former Manchester United boss made his feelings clear by stating that the Bhoys will ‘completely finish it’ if they pick up three points on Sunday at Parkhead.
It has been a huge turnaround from the Hoops since the Premiership’s return from the mid-winter break because they have gone from strength to strength.
Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live (26/03/2019 8:30 pm), Moyes issued some brutally honest views on the Old Firm fixture and made it clear that the title race is well and truly over.
“A really big game for both teams,” Moyes told BBC Radio 5 Live. “I think it’s over anyway [the title race] everyone knows that. But I am sure [a win for Celtic] will completely finish it.
“But I think for Steven [Gerrard] it’s a big game as well because Rangers now can’t win anything in my eyes, I don’t think they can catch Celtic. But I think if you can go to Parkhead and get a result then that would be a big lift for him and a big lift for Rangers.
“For Celtic at home, they will be expected to win it. Rangers to go there and get a result will be really tough.”
Celtic are ten points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership table and it will have to take an almighty collapse from Neil Lennon’s boys for them to lose eight-in-a-row from here on in.
Steven Gerrard won’t give up because there are still games left in the season and they have to play the leaders two more times, including at the weekend.
There is no doubt that Gerrard will point towards his team beating the Bhoys 1-0 in December, but a lot has changed since then with Brendan Rodgers no longer being in the opposition dugout.
Lennon, who has a big history when it comes to Old Firm games, will be hoping to make his mark on this fixture once more.
