West Ham boss David Moyes spoke to reporters in the aftermath of his side’s superb 2-0 win away at Leicester on Saturday, and suggested that Declan Rice had his best ever game in a Hammers shirt, as quoted by the club’s official website.

The 19-year-old has been magnificent for the east London outfit this season, but he did receive criticism from his manager for his performance away at Arsenal a couple of weeks ago.

West Ham defender Declan Rice reacts during the Carabao Cup Fourth Round match between Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United at Wembley Stadium on October 25, 2017 in London, England.

Rice has made 24 Premier League appearances so far this season, mostly because Moyes has been forced to use him due to somewhat of a defensive injury crisis at the club this term.

The Scot addressed the media after his side’s vital win at the King Power Stadium, and offered high words of praise for the Irishman, suggesting that his display against the Foxes was his finest in a West Ham shirt, as quoted by the club’s official website:

“I thought Declan Rice also had his best game as a young player up against the likes of Jamie Vardy, as that’s not an easy job. He did very well.”

The Hammers still have two games remaining this season, and if they are to have any chance whatsoever of winning them both, Rice will have to be at his very best.

The Republic of Ireland under-21 international has been tested to the max this season, and has so far passed with flying colours.

West Ham must ensure that they hold onto the 19-year-old, as he will surely be vital to their chances of making genuine progress over the next few seasons.
