West Ham United’s David Moyes isn’t happy about his bust-up with Andy Carroll becoming public knowledge.
David Moyes has told Football London that the “culture” of West Ham United has to change after his mid-week bust-up with Andy Carroll was made public.
It was widely reported on Tuesday that Moyes and Carroll were embroiled in a training-ground row which resulted in the latter being sent home.
BBC Sport has since reported that the West Ham striker has apologised to the Scottish manager and that the club now considered the matter to be “settled”.
Although Moyes tried his best not to get wound up by the leak, the former Everton and Manchester United boss admits that he would prefer if behind-the-scenes incidents did not reach the media.
“Since I’ve been here, cultures of football clubs are very difficult to change,” he told Football London.
“The culture of West Ham United has to change in many ways and one of them is if there are regular leaks coming out the club. I can’t see how that’s a good thing.
“I’ve tried not to waste any energy and get too wound up by it because I think it is the culture of West Ham United. I’d like to change it, but I think to change cultures of football clubs quite often take more than just telling someone to stop leaking a story. It will be more than that.”
Carroll is said to be unhappy over his lack of playing time, with the 29-year-old – who rescued a valuable point with a last-minute equaliser against Stoke two weeks ago – only earning 10 minutes of football since returning from injury in April.
The former Newcastle United man was an unused substitute in last week’s 4-1 defeat by Manchester City and it’ll be interesting to see if Moyes uses him in this afternoon’s visit to Leicester City.
