David Moyes backs Wayne Rooney’s Everton return

Everton’s Wayne Rooney is still a brilliant finisher, according to David Moyes.

David Moyes has told ESPN that he believes Wayne Rooney will do the business for Everton this season.

The England captain returned to Goodison Park this summer, 13 years after leaving Everton for Manchester United.

The 32-year-old has fulfilled his potential and thensome, having became United and England’s all-time record goalscorer since quitting the Toffees.

But Moyes, who gave Rooney his Everton debut, says that his former striker still has the tools needed to be a big hit on Merseyside again this season.

“I think it’s a really good move for Everton,” he told ESPN. “Even at the end of his spell with Manchester United Wayne was still scoring goals. One thing is Wayne is that he’s a brilliant finisher.

“It’s a big thing for Everton. It shows they’re in business and they want to challenge the top teams. I think Wayne will score goals. It’s the one thing he can do better than anyone in the country.”

With Everton boss Ronald Koeman splurging over £100 million, the big thing for the Dutchman is qualifying the club for the Champions League.

Anything less come the end of this season will be considered a failure and the pressure is certainly on Koeman and his summer signings – especially Rooney.
