Speaking to BBC Sport, Sunderland manager David Moyes has praised Jordan Pickford’s display in the draw with Southampton.
The Black Cats were thrown into something of a crisis earlier this week as number one Vito Mannone picked up an injury that has ruled him out for three months.
As a result he was forced to name youngster Jordan Pickford in goal for Saturday’s clash with Southampton at St. Mary’s.

Unfortunately things did not go to plan for the young goalkeeper as he allowed a late effort from Jay Rodriguez to squirm under his body and see his side miss out on all three points.
Aside from that though he was largely solid and Moyes was keen to praise his performance at the end of the game.
“Jordan Pickford played really well today and made some good saves,” he told BBC Sport.
“This is what you get with young goalkeepers, there are times they will make mistakes and you have to put up with it. If a defender or midfielder makes mistakes, it is not highlighted, but for a goalkeeper it is.”

Despite an all-round solid display from Pickford, it will be interesting to see if Moyes looks to add another goalkeeper before the end of the transfer window.
The goalkeeper is highly rated at the Stadium of Light but Moyes is not likely to fancy having him as his number one in for the first few months of the season.
However, with funds at the club tight to say the least, he may be forced to do so and focus his spending elsewhere.
