Sunderland have won three of their last four matches.
Sunderland boss David Moyes has told the Daily Mail that he thought Jamie Carragher was correct to criticise Lamine Kone earlier in the season.
Carragher slated Kone on Monday Night Football for showing a lack of effort, after the Black Cats went 10 games without a victory to start their Premier League campaign.
However, Kone has been much improved for Sunderland in recent weeks, and Moyes believes that the powerful centre-back’s good form has come as a result of the work he has put in on the training ground.
“The things that were picked out (by Carragher) were correct,” said Moyes.
“But I think he’s turned a corner. We are putting an awful lot of work into Lamine and Papy and they will not thank me for having them out in the afternoon as much as I have done.
“I think Lamine has got a lot of quality and his positional play has got better. They have both improved.”
Kone was brought to Sunderland last January, and he showed his quality towards the back end of last campaign.
The 27-year-old’s performances were one of the major reasons why Sunderland were able to escape the drop last term.
And, now Kone is back to his best, Sunderland have made vast improvements once again.
The Black Cats have won three of their last four matches, after beating Leicester City 2-1 in their latest outing.
Sunderland are still in the relegation zone, but they are now only one point off safety, with Moyes’ side’s next match coming against Swansea City at the Liberty Stadium.
