David Moyes says Robert Snodgrass recall not possible

Robert Snodgrass joined Aston Villa on loan from West Ham United in the summer of 2017.

West Ham United manager David Moyes has revealed in The London Evening Standard that he would have recalled Robert Snodgrass from his loan spell at Aston Villa if he could.

Snodgrass joined Championship club Villa on a season-long loan deal from Premier League outfit West Ham in the summer of 2017.

The former Leeds United winger moved to the Hammers from Hull City in January 2017 for a transfer fee reported by BBC Sport to be worth £10.2 million, but the Scotland international failed to make an impact at the London Stadium during the second half of last season.

West Ham manager Moyes, who was appointed in his role in November 2017 following the departure of Slaven Bilic, has admitted that he would have recalled Snodgrass from his loan spell at Villa if he could.

Moyes wrote in The London Evening Standard: “I’ve been looking but historically this is not a good month in which to sign players.

“I feel our best bet is to target players who are experienced in the Premier League and that’s not so easy.

“If things had been different, I would have recalled Robert Snodgrass from his loan at Aston Villa and we would have done it by now but it’s not possible.”

Moyes’s comments suggest that Snodgrass will remain at Villa for the rest of the season, and this is certainly positive for Steve Bruce’s side.

The former Norwich City star has established himself as an important player for the Villans, and him remaining at Villa Park is only going to enhance their chances of winning promotion to the Premier League from the Championship at the end of the season.
