Marko Arnautovic has played a starring role at West Ham United since David Moyes took charge.
Moyes has transformed Arnautovic’s form around since taking charge at the London Stadium, but the Scottish boss feels that there is more to come from the attacker.
Arnautovic has been given a role as a striker at West Ham, and the Austrian has become the Hammers’ talisman in recent weeks.
The Austrian international has shown a hard-working side to his game, which wasn’t evident in his first few weeks at the club.
But Moyes still wants to see more from Arnautovic in future weeks, as he feels that the former Stoke City can perform at a higher level for longer.
Moyes said: “He’s shown everyone that where the question was, that he wasn’t running about or putting in any effort, that would be the last thing you’d say about him now. What we’re not going to do is allow him to go back to where he was, to go back to that any more. That’s the challenge for him.
“Now, we’re saying that we’re keeping it up. You have to remember he missed the Tottenham game with an injury and he didn’t play against Shrewsbury, so we got him back fresh, but I’m still working to get him through 90 minutes at that level, at that speed.
“He’s doing maybe 70 minutes in games and I’m saying ‘I need more from you’, but maybe I can’t get that all into him straight away. What he is giving us is a great level of speed and energy in the early part of the game.”
Arnautovic played a starring role in West Ham’s last match, which came against Huddersfield Town.
The Hammers won 4-1, with Arnautovic finding the net and making an assist during the victory.
Moyes’ side are now in 11th place in the Premier League table, with their next match coming against Shrewsbury Town in the FA Cup on Tuesday evening.
