Sunderland have managed just 15 goals so far this season

Speaking to the Chronicle, Sunderland manager David Moyes has said his sides’ lack of goal-scorers remains a massive problem.

The Black Cats have once again struggled for goals this season with just 15 scored so far; the second lowest in the division.

Jermain Defoe has continued to be among the goals with eight to his name but aside from that scorers have been hard to come by.

That is shown in the fact that full-back Patrick van Aanholt is the club’s joint-second highest scorer with three to his name, the same as Victor Anichebe.

And Moyes has admitted that it is something that is having a detrimental impact on the side.

“It is a massive problem, that, because you need to share the goals around the team,” he told the Chronicle.

“We need to get more goals. I didn’t actually know that but I’ll be telling them that. They’re in for it now!”

With such a damning stat, it is likely Sunderland will be targeting another striker in the January transfer window.

With funds limited, though, Moyes will have quite the task on his hands finding a player who is not only good enough but also in his team’s budget.

The free transfer market will surely be his best option once again, especially after the relative success he has had with Anichebe so far.
