Sunderland have failed to win any of their first nine Premier League matches since David Moyes took charge.
Sunderland boss David Moyes has told the Chronicle that he he is not convinced his side are able to play a whole match on the back foot.
Moyes admits that he could line his Sunderland team up to defend, and try and nick a goal.
But the Scottish boss is not convinced that he has the players at his disposal who would be able to achieve success, while playing in such a defensive system.
“I’ll take any win at the moment. If you tell me we can give the opposition the ball for 90 minutes and then sneak a goal at the end, I’ll take that. But at the moment I’m not sure we can do that,” Moyes said.
“We have to strike a balance between being tight in defence but then hitting teams on the break.”
Moyes is already under pressure at Sunderland, after the Wearsiders poor start to the new campaign.
Moyes is yet to win a match in the Premier League since taking charge at the Stadium of Light.
The former Manchester United and Everton boss is currently the bookies’ favourite to be the next manager to be sacked, but he has reportedly been told that his position is not in any danger yet.
Sunderland are currently five points adrift of safety, after collecting just two points from their first nine games this term.
Sunderland are next in action later this evening in the EFL Cup against Southampton, before they take on Arsenal at the weekend.
