Sheffield United star David McGoldrick is set to sign a new two-and-a-half year deal at the club as reward for his fine form, HITC Sport understands from sources close to the club.

McGoldrick has been a revelation for promotion-chasing Sheffield United since arriving on a free transfer last summer from Ipswich Town.

The 31-year-old has scored 10 goals so far this season and established a deadly strike partnership with Billy Sharp for Chris Wilder’s men.

The form of McGoldrick has saw him keep last season’s top scorer Leon Clarke out of the United starting XI.

McGoldrick only signed a one-year deal upon his arrival at Bramall Lane and the club are keen to to tie him down to a new long-term contract.

McGoldrick is expected to pen the fresh terms inside the next 48 hours to keep him at Bramall Lane until 2021.

The news will come as a welcome boost to Sheffield United as they look to maintain their push for promotion to the Premier League with the Blades currently sitting fourth in the Championship table.
