David Provan has urged Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou to sign David Marshall from Derby County before the summer transfer window closes tomorrow, as quoted in The Scottish Sun.
The Celtic legend believes that Postecoglou needs to get rid of Vasilis Barkas and bring in 36-year-old Scotland international goalkeeper Marshall.
Greece international goalkeeper Barkas joined the Hoops from AEK Athens last summer for a transfer fee reported by The Scottish Sun to be worth £4.5 million.
What David Provan has said
Provan wrote in The Scottish Sun: “Are Celtic missing a trick on David Marshall? Marsh is No3 keeper at Derby County after being bombed by Wayne Rooney.
“Can’t see the Rams or Marshall being difficult to deal with if another club wants him. Makes me wonder if Ange Postecoglou is aware of Marshall’s situation.
“With Vasilis Barkas’s Hoops career going nowhere, shouldn’t the signing of 47-times capped, Celtic-daft Marshall be a no-brainer.”

David Marshall for Vasilis Barkas?
Barkas struggled last season and has now lost his place to former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Joe Hart.
Hart joined Celtic from Spurs earlier this summer and is now the first-choice goalkeeper at Celtic Park.
Marshall is a very good goalkeeper who would want to be the number one at his new club, if indeed he leaves Derby this summer.

Why would the Scotsman go to Celtic and endure the same situation he is facing at Derby now?
Yes, Marshall is a former Celtic goalkeeper, but would that be enough for him to make the switch?
Moreover, you would think that when Hart joined Celtic, he was given some sort of assurance that he would be the first choice between the posts.
Meanwhile, Sky Sports have reported that striker Georgios Giakoumakis will join Celtic on a four-year contract from VVV-Venlo.
