David James has told Sky Sports News – as per Football Daily – on Tuesday that Arsenal should consider a move to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Erling Haaland, but surely, Arsenal have next to no chance of getting him.

Haaland, 21, has been sensational once again for Dortmund this season. The striker has 25 goals and eight assists in 26 games – and overall stats of 82 goals and 23 assists in 85 Dortmund outings. But he is set to go this summer.

The front runners that are continually linked include Manchester City, Real Madrid and Bayern Munich – the latter looking to possibly replace Robert Lewandowski. The Sun are one of many to report his £65million clause.

Arsenal are expected to be on the lookout for a striker this summer and have been linked with plenty – including Dom Calvert-Lewin, Aleksandar Isak and more. James, though, thinks they should bring in Haaland.

“With Haaland coming up for £65million, that’s something – maybe Arsenal should have a word. For all the wonderful football they play, they lack a goal threat,” James said on Tuesday morning, as per Football Daily.

James on Haaland: Do Arsenal stand a chance of signing Dortmund man?

No. Haaland is the cream of the crop, one of the best in the world and is still only 21. The Leeds-born talent is the kind of player that needs to be playing for a side challenging for league titles. There are only two in England.

Liverpool or Manchester City – and one of those is trying to sign him. Bayern are top of German football, and Real Madrid are close to securing La Liga. What James has also missed, is Haaland’s wages and agent fees.

City are said to be closing in on a deal and while the transfer fee is affordable, it is his wages that are a different level. ESPN say Haaland wants wages of £500,000 a week, way beyond Arsenal’s pay structure.

Even if Arsenal finish in fourth place come the end of the season, and qualify for the Champions League – they will not be able to sign Haaland. Despite his age, the Norwegian talent has already outgrown the Gunners.
