Speaking on Premier League Productions’ Weekend Preview, David James has been discussing Liverpool’s changing room and James Milner.
The former England goalkeeper has previously played alongside Milner, and he says that he absolutely loves the midfielder and his ability to prove him wrong.
James says that he often questions why Jurgen Klopp brings James Milner off of the bench, but he says that every single time he comes on he shows exactly why he’s a valuable asset for Liverpool.

James spoke about Milner.
“I think you need to look around that changing room. Look at van Dijk, Henderson and Thiago these guys have big characters, James Milner, I love James Milner, but every time he comes on I think ‘why is he putting him on there?’ And then you see what he does. There were points in the Southampton game where he was having a go at some of his own players for not doing things right, the changing room polices itself,” James said.
Calming influence
James Milner may not be the first name on the Liverpool teamsheet these days, but he’s the perfect player to bring off the bench in any situation.
Late in a game, a team can often panic or lose their heads, but Milner has been there and done that before at every single level.
As James says, Milner knows how to react to any situation, and he’s not afraid to tell his teammates what they should be doing.
Of course, it’s easy to question why a 36-year-old is getting regular minutes for the best team in Europe, but every time Milner comes on, he proves just how valuable he is to this team.
