Former Premier League goalkeeper David James has been singing the praises of Leeds United’s EFL Cup hero Marco Silvestri.
The Italian helped Leeds into the EFL Cup quarter finals this week as he saved three penalties in a penalty shoot-out with Norwich City.

It was a fine display that rightly won him the plaudits of many neutrals – including James.
The 46-year-old, who has 170 clean sheets in the Premier League, was appearing on Channel 5’s EFL Cup highlights show yesterday evening (26/10/16) when he had this to say about Silvestri’s performance:
“How often do you listen to commentators say just hit it (the penalty) down the middle because the goalie will go early?
“Silvestri stands up for the first one and this save (the third from Robbie Brady) is particularly good.
“It was a wonderful evening in the penalty shoot-out for Silvestri so well done sir.”

There is no doubt that the Italian put in a fantastic display in the shoot-out and the praise from an experienced goalkeeper such as James can only do the confidence of the Leeds player all the good in the world.
He has had to bide his time for opportunities this season, with Rob Green’s arrival budging him down to the second choice option under new Leeds manager Garry Monk.
But he proved yet again this week that he is a sensational shot-stopper and is an able deputy at Elland Road should the situation call for his presence.
