Speaking on the All To Play for Podcast, David James has compared Leeds United’s Illan Meslier to England international Dean Henderson.
With the Euros just around the corner, James was discussing England’s choices when it comes to the goalkeeping position, and he was discussing Henderson’s confidence when coming for crosses.
He claims that Henderson’s confidence reminds him a lot of Leeds’ Meslier.
“There was a big question mark about whether or not De Gea would play the next game because of one dropped cross. If it goes into the back of the net you say this dropped cross resulted in a goal, but he came for the cross, yeah he didn’t do it right, but he still came for it,” James said.
“I’ve seen him miss crosses, like Meslier, sorry I’m going to have to talk about Meslier at Leeds. He’s exactly the same, a young goalkeeper who just goes ‘if you want me to come for crosses, I’ll come for them, if I drop one I’ll still come for the next one and I won’t drop that one’. When I see Hendo, that’s what I see.”

This is certainly an interesting comparison.
Meslier and Henderson are two of the Premier League’s great young goalkeepers, and to be fair we can see the similarities between the pair.
Perhaps it’s because they’re both a little wet behind the ears or they’re keen to impress, but their styles are certainly similar, and they’re both very interesting to watch.
Meslier is only 21 years old and he’s already being compared to an England international, so it’s fair to say that the sky is the limit for this young man.
