David Hay wants Celtic to make Odsonne Edouard deal permanent

Odsonne Edouard joined Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic on loan from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2017.

David Hay has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic should sign Odsonne Edouard on a permanent contract from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.

Celtic signed Edouard on a season-long loan deal from PSG in the summer of 2017.

According to The Daily Mail, the Scottish Premiership club have to pay Ligue 1 side PSG £7 million in transfer fees in order to secure the services of the 20-year-old forward.

Former Celtic midfielder and manager Hay has suggested that the Glasgow giants should sign the former France Under-19 international on a permanent deal.

Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times about Edouard: “If you have already had the boy in for a full season and have had a chance to look at him and work with him then you will have an indication of what you believe his potential is – and we all know that Brendan Rodgers as a coach enjoys that element.

“As I have said often enough he is the guy who works with the players day in and day out and there is no question then that you see things that not everyone is privy to.

“He will be well placed to make the call but for me I think it would be a good buy this summer.”

Opinion changed

Hay seems to have changed his mind about Edouard, with the former Celtic manager having earlier suggested that the Hoops should wait before making the forward’s loan deal permanent.

The Scotsman wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times on January 13, 2013: “We have seen flashes of the player but given the current pricetag that he carries of £7m, a fee that would make him Celtic’s most expensive signing, I am not sure that there will be a rush to commit just yet.

“I would think that the jury will be out on that one between now and the end of the season.”

Old Firm heroics

Edouard is not guaranteed a place in the Celtic starting lineup, but the French forward has made good impact when he has come on as a substitute.

The 20-year-old forward scored the winner in the Bhoys’ 3-2 victory over Rangers away from home at Ibrox in the Old Firm derby last weekend.

The PSG-owned forward has scored six goals and provided two assists in 16 Scottish Premiership matches for the Hoops so far this season, Transfermarkt.co.uk.
