Former Celtic midfielder and manager David Hay has written in The Glasgow Evening Times that Steven Gerrard’s Glasgow Rangers were negative against Brendan Rodgers’s side last weekend.

Ibrox club Rangers suffered a 1-0 defeat in the Old Firm derby against Celtic away from home at Celtic Park.

The Hoops were the better team in the Scottish Premiership game and deservedly picked up all three points from the encounter.

Former Celtic midfielder and manager Hay believes that Rangers were negative in their approach against the Hoops.

Hay has also suggested that the gap between Celtic and Rangers is not closing.

“I was a little surprised by how negative Rangers were,” Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times. “I can only remember a couple of forays forward really and very few opportunities for the visitors.”

Hay added: “Rangers may point to the scoreline and suggest that is evidence that the gap between the sides is closing, but it really wasn’t all that far away from being another thumping.

“It really could have been four or five, and that would have been a fairer reflection on the match as a whole.”

Bouncing back

Celtic have the best squad in Scotland, and the win for the Hoops in the Scottish Premiership game against Rangers did not come as a surprise.

Rangers should have learned from the defeat, and one suspects that manager Steven Gerrard will have pointed out his players what they did wrong.

The Gers now have to bounce back from the feat and put together a run of positive results.
