Could Celtic defender Anthony Ralston play for the Scotland national football team in the future?
Ralston is 18 years of age and operates as a right-back. Although the youngster is not guaranteed a place in the Celtic starting lineup, his performances so far this season have been encouraging.
The Scotland Under-21 international gave a good account of himself while playing for the Hoops against Paris Saint-Germain at Celtic Park in their opening Champions League game this season.
Former Celtic midfielder and manager Hay has suggested that Ralston could establish himself as Scotland’s right-back when their Euro 2016 qualifying campaign gets underway.
“As Tierney progresses he may well become a natural central defender in the later stages of his career, but for now he belongs on the left where it looks very natural,” Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.
“That may give rise to a problem on the right for Scotland, However, while it is early days yet I wonder if Anthony Ralston could end up on that other flank as the next campaign starts to build.”
Celtic have a number of players in the current Scotland squad, including Scott Brown and Kieran Tierney.
Given that the Hoops have the best squad in the country, it is not surprising that they have providing the national team with a lot of the players.
Ralston could become a figure in the Scotland senior team, but for now he needs to work hard in training and get as much playing time as he can for Celtic.
