David Hay has advice for Celtic regarding signing players in the January transfer window.
David Hay has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic should sign a box-to-box midfielder and a striker in the January transfer window.
The former Celtic midfielder and manager has also suggested that the Bhoys could face a struggle to hold onto Kieran Tierney and Moussa Dembele.
Tierney, who is 19 years of age, is one of the best young left-backs in the Scottish Premiership.
Dembele, who is 20, has been in brilliant form for Celtic so far this season and has been banging in the goals for fun, having joined the Glasgow giants in the summer transfer window after leaving English club Fulham at the end of the 2015-16 campaign.
“We are getting to the point where I think Celtic will be starting to turn their attention to the January transfer window,” Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times.
“I still think that box-to-box midfielder, a creative type, could enhance Celtic in the middle of the park and I wouldn’t rule out another striker either.”
“I am sure the groundwork will already be well underway to get a few more bodies in – and maybe one or two going the other way,” added Hay. “The challenge, of course, is that you hang onto your own good young players.
“We all know that Kieran Tierney and Dembele attract attention but neither appears to be in any rush – and crucially Celtic do not need to cash in any time soon.”
Celtic have the strongest squad in Scotland and are firm favourites to win the Scottish Premiership title this season.
However, adding a couple of new players in the January transfer window is not going to hurt the Bhoys.
Moreover, if the Bhoys drop to the Europa League, then a bigger and stronger squad is going to help them progress far in the European competition.
Celtic are at the top of the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 22 points from eight matches, four points clear of second-placed Aberdeen with a game in hand.
