David Hay has suggested in The Glasgow Evening Times that Celtic do not need to sign Scott McTominay from Manchester United in the January transfer window.

According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic are interested in signing McTominay from United in the January transfer window.

It has been reported that the Glasgow giants want to secure the services of the 22-year-old Scotland international central midfielder on a loan deal.

Former Celtic midfielder and manager Hay does not believe that Celtic need McTominay.

Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times: “The link with Scott McTominay is an interesting one although I am sure that there will be a few possibilities for him if Manchester United decide that he is going out on loan.

“The middle of the park is probably where Celtic are best served so I wouldn’t have thought that bringing in reinforcements for that area of the pitch would be the priority.”

No need for Scott McTominay

McTominay is a very talented and promising young central midfielder, but Celtic are well stocked in that department and do not need another player.

If the 22-year-old does join the Hoops on loan fro United in the January transfer window, he is going to struggle for playing time.

There is no point in the Scotland international – who earns £25,000 per week as salary, according to Spotrac.com – switching to the Hoops and failing to break into the first team.
