David Turnbull will not join Neil Lennon’s Celtic in the summer transfer window.
Turnbull was set to join Celtic from Scottish Premiership rivals Motherwell this summer for £3.25 million, but it did not go through after it emerged during the medical that the midfielder needs “immediate preventative” knee surgery, as reported by BBC Sport.
Former Celtic midfielder and manager Hay has given his take on the 19-year-old midfielder’s failed transfer to the Hoops.
Hay wrote in The Glasgow Evening Times: “It is a blow for Celtic because he would, with his age and his huge potential, have been a great acquisition for them. I am sure that Motherwell, too, had plans for the money they were going to receive.
“But my thoughts are with David at this time. I wish him well in his recovery. Hopefully, we will see him back to his best soon.”
January transfer to Celtic?
Turnbull did well for Motherwell last season, and one can understand why Celtic wanted the midfielder in the summer transfer window.
The 19-year-old is injured at the moment, but once he recovers, it will be only a matter of time before he gets back to his best.
It would make sense for Celtic to try for the teenager again in January or even next summer.
