West Ham United have become renowned for producing highly talented youngsters throughout the years.

Hammers co-owner David Gold took to Twitter in an effort to highlight the club’s eagerness to put trust in youth, whilst admitting at the same time that they just do not have enough quality youngsters in and amongst the first-team squad.
West Ham endured a bitterly disappointing 2016/17 Premier League campaign, with many of their players experiencing troubled times, as they slumped to an 11th placed finish in the table.
The Hammers faithful were left baffled throughout the campaign, as the likes of Reece Oxford and Reece Burke were loaned out to Championship sides, when the players left available to Bilic were severely underperforming.
Gold, however, took to Twitter to defend the club with regards to the opportunities they have given their youngsters, responding to a fan asking why there has been a shortage of academy graduates at the club in recent years:
There is a clear discrepancy between Gold’s tweet, and what actually took place at the London Stadium this season.
Earlier on in the campaign, West Ham’s defending could be described as nothing other than shambolic, yet Bilic refused to play Oxford or Burke in either the centre-back or right-back positions.

Therefore, Gold’s suggestion that the team is being picked with quality in mind, irrelevant of age, lacks little substance, and further goes to show that he and fellow co-owner David Sullivan are totally out of touch with reality.
Next season, Hammers fans will not only expect to see some impressive signings, but will also want Bilic and co to bring through more young talent into the first-team fold, because that is what the club pride themselves on after-all.
