Charlie Austin has joined Southampton from Queens Park Rangers.
West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has suggested on social networking site Twitter that Charlie Austin is not a bargain signing.
Austin has joined Premier League outfit Southampton from Championship side Queens Park Rangers.
According to The Guardian, the Saints had to pay QPR a transfer fee of £4 million for the services of the English striker.
The 26-year-old is a proven Premier League striker and scored as many as 18 goals last season.
Austin’s stats become even more impressive when one considers that his 18 goals came for a QPR side that got relegated to the Championship.
Gold, though, does not appear to be convinced, and has suggested that the former Burnley star may not be a bargain signing for Southampton.
The West Ham co-chairman has pointed out that the transfer fee may be £4m, but Austin could be earning a lot in wages per week.
Austin has struggled with injuries this season, but he remains a superb striker who will be looking to play an important role for Southampton in the coming months.
