West Ham United co-owner David Gold has been full of optimism since Manuel Pellegrini was appointed the club’s new manager.

West Ham wanted to go in a new direction this summer and will be paying Pellegrini more than any manager in the club’s history in a bid to bring the good times to East London.
Hammers co-owner David Gold has made a bold pledge that West Ham will be spending more than ever before too, in an effort to finally make good on promises made when the club left Upton Park for the London Stadium in Stratford.
Supporters hope Pellegrini will be able to attract a higher calibre of player to West Ham as he looks to shape the Hammers squad in his style this summer.
But when Gold made the bold pledge to supporters to undertake unprecedented spending cynics saw it as a cheap attempt to sell season tickets.
Gold told talkSPORT: “What I can assure everybody is that we’ll probably spend more money in this window than we’ve spent in any window in the past.

“That bodes well for our intent and we must wait and see where it takes us.”
He was also quoted by the likes of Sky Sports pleading with fans: “I would back us (he and fellow co-owner David Sullivan) because I know what is coming.”
Given the club’s failure to live up to promises made with regards ambition and spending since the decision to leave Upton Park – West Ham have a net spend of just £7 million in the last two seasons – Hammers fans remained sceptical.
But it seems this time around the rhetoric from Gold is more than just season ticket sale patter.

That’s because West Ham finally look to be getting serious in the transfer market targeting pacy, top quality and exciting players with moves for Ryan Fredericks, Felipe Anderson, Marlon Santos, Armando Izzo, Javier Pastore to name just a few.
The arrival of Pellegrini looks to have finally given Gold and Sullivan the confidence to splash the cash but of course being linked and getting the deals over the line are two very different things in the fiercely competitive transfer market.
At least now it seems the intent is very real from West Ham’s owners.
