The West Ham United joint-owner is not happy with players holding clubs to ransom.
West Ham United co-owner David Gold has taken to Twitter to comment on the January transfer window.
His comments come after West Ham manager Slaven Bilic revealed that star player Dimitri Payet was seeking a way out of the club (as reported by the BBC last week), and given Gold’s position at one of England’s most famous sides, it is no surprise he is suggesting a rethink.
“With a number of top Premier League players holding their clubs to ransom, is it time to close the January transfer window?” Gold asked on Monday morning.
Such a change would certainly stop situations where players feel they can down tools and leave halfway through a season, and it would also ensure more stability for an entire campaign.
But for everyone arguing that it would be a good move, there will be plenty feeling it is necessary as sides seek to strengthen in a bid to fight for trophies or avoid relegation.
West Ham certainly need a few reinforcements of their own this month and some of their fans were quick to respond to Gold’s comments with a selection posted below:
