West Ham United’s Michail Antonio suffered a groin injury against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to respond to questions about Michail Antonio’s injury – but the hope is that he will only miss one game.
The Hammers suffered a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday afternoon, as they fell 3-0 behind thanks to two goals from Harry Kane and a strike from Christian Eriksen.
West Ham did hit back as Javier Hernandez and Cheikhou Kouyate found the net either side of Serge Aurier’s red card for Spurs, but they couldn’t find the equaliser to make it 3-3, eventually slipping to another defeat.
It’s now just four points in six games this season, and as if four defeats already wasn’t bad enough, manager Slaven Bilic now faces another injury problem ahead of a crucial home clash with Swansea City.
With Manuel Lanzini already out of action, the last thing Bilic wanted was an injury to another attacking player, but Michail Antonio was substituted after just 28 minutes against Spurs having suffered a groin injury.
Few players in the West Ham side can match Antonio’s pace, power, endeavour and knack of being in the right place at the right time as a goalscorer, whilst his versatility has also been key to Bilic over the last two years.
Fans are understandably worried about Antonio’s status, and one fan took to Twitter to ask co-chairman David Gold for an update on the situation, asking just how long Antonio will be missing for.
Gold responded by stating that Antonio is only expected to miss this weekend’s Swansea clash, though many West Ham fans responded with scepticism over Gold’s suggestion that he will only miss the one game.
