West Ham suffered a loss in their first Premier League game of the season, with Diego Costa netting a late goal to give Chelsea a win.
The Hammers had fought back after Eden Hazard’s penalty opener, with James Collins equalising towards the end of the game, before Costa’s winner.

West Ham co-chairman David Gold gave his reaction to the defeat after the game, and criticised the refereeing decisions during the game which led to Costa still being on the pitch.
He also praised new signing Arthur Masuaku as a positive from the performance, which generally was a lacklustre one from the Hammers.
Costa was already on a booking with the game at 1-1, when he fouled goalkeeper Adrian, who was dealing with an errant backpass.
The striker may have been attempting to get the ball, but he caught the Spaniard late and scythed him down, and he was incredibly lucky not to pick up a second booking and be sent off.
To see him go on and score the winner was perhaps inevitable at that point, but Gold’s frustration is understandable.
