West Ham United co-owner David Gold has taken to Twitter to provide an update on Diafra Sakho’s situation.

The Hammers have endured a tough second season under Slaven Bilic although improved form of late has pushed the club up to the relative comfort of midtable.

A difficult first campaign at the Olympic Stadium, the sour end to the recent Dimitri Payet saga and a 4-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City last time out have left morale low.

Another player who looked certain to leave the club in the summer was striker Sakho, who is a real favourite with supporters.

Rumours of a falling out with Bilic looked to have brought an end to the Senegal striker’s Hammers career but he made a return from injury earlier this season only to get injured again after two games.

But there some welcome positive news for the club this week when Gold took to Twitter to give an update on Sakho, who was ruled out until March after undergoing back surgery earlier this season.

“Spoke to Diafra today he’s working hard on his rehab and is looking forward to resuming training,” Gold said.

“Great to see him in such high spirits.”

And when pressed by a confused fan who thought Sakho wanted to leave the club, Gold revealed the situation had been resolved – unlike Payet.

“Sometimes you can sort things out sometimes you can’t,” Gold added.

Statistically Sakho has a superb goalscoring record for West Ham with almost a goal every other game since joining from Metz for just £3.5 million back in 2014.

Injuries have severely disrupted his progress, though, curtailing each season he has spent with the club.

If he can stay fit the 27-year-old could be like a new signing for Bilic when he does make his long awaited return, estimated to be around mid-March.
