Dimitri Payet is happy at West Ham United, says David Gold.
West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has revealed on the club’s official website that Dimitri Payet is very happy at the club.
Payet was linked with moves away from West Ham in the summer transfer window.
According to The Mirror, Premier League giants Chelsea and Spanish powerhouse Real Madrid were interested in the France international attacking midfielder.
The 29-year-old, though, has remained at the London Stadium, and West Ham co-chairman Gold has said that the former Marseille star is very happy with his current situation.
“There was obviously a lot of speculation surrounding the future of Dimitri Payet and a number of reports said that he could leave, but that never happened and we wanted him to stay,” Gold wrote on West Ham’s official website.
“The player himself is very happy at West Ham United and we didn’t entertain any approaches.
“After what he did at the European Championship Finals during the summer, I understand why fans would be apprehensive and worried about his future, but myself and David Sullivan always stated that he would be going nowhere.”
Payet was one of the best players in the Premier League last season and was sensational for West Ham.
The attacking midfielder scored nine goals and created 116 chances in 30 Premier League games for the Hammers during the 2015-16 campaign.
The Frenchman has created one chance in one league appearances for Slaven Bilic’s side so far this season.
Payet enjoyed a good 2016 European Championship for France in the summer, scoring three goals and creating 24 chances in seven matches.
West Ham will return to action this coming weekend when they take on Watford at the London Stadium in the Premier League.
