The West Ham co-owner has been discussing the club’s ‘wonderful opportunity.’

West Ham United co-owner David Gold believes the east London club must absolutely hold on to Manuel Lanzini and Dimitri Payet, according to the club’s official website.

And he has also singled out younger players such as Michail Antonio, Aaron Cresswell and Sam Byram for praise. The co-owner is aware the Upton Park outfit have a ‘wonderful opportunity’ to reach Europe next term.

Gold wrote in his ‘From the Boardroom’ column on the West Ham site: “We are showing that we want our best players to stay with the club and it is so important that the likes of Lanzini and Payet remain with us for a long time.

“It is a statement that the board are making and we realise that we have this wonderful opportunity.

“We also have many talented young players like Antonio, Cresswell and Byram who want to be here with us and be part of our new adventure when we move into the new stadium.”

As has been well documented, West Ham are right in the hunt for next season’s Champions League places.

And, as has also been heavily discussed, the Hammers could be even higher in the Premier League had they not suffered serious injury problems throughout the season.

Next up for West Ham after the international break is a home clash against Crystal Palace. Palace are yet to win in the league during 2016 but that could give them an edge in terms of motivation.
