David Gold says this has been Mark Noble’s best season yet.
West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to suggest that midfielder Mark Noble should have been in the England squad.
Noble, 28, has come up through the ranks at Upton Park, and has now racked up more than 350 appearances for the club, with fans unsurprisingly pleased to see a homegrown player making a long-lasting impact.
This season, the central midfielder has notched three goals and four assists, playing a key role in an impressive West Ham team, which currently sits two points away from the Champions League places.
Noble has impressed with his passing range this season, and the subject of his international career has come up on more than one occasion over the course of the campaign.
Noble racked up 47 appearances for England at various youth levels, but has still yet to be called up by the senior squad, with the midfielder missing out again when Roy Hodgson named his latest England squad on Thursday.
With friendlies against Germany and the Netherlands coming up, manager Hodgson has chosen to call up Leicester’s Danny Drinkwater instead of Noble, prompting outrage from West Ham fans who feel it’s time for Noble to be given the proper recognition for his performances.
Now, Hammers co-chairman David Gold has been asked on Twitter about whether Noble deserved to be in the England squad – and he gave a clear response.
Gold suggested that this has been Noble’s finest season in a West Ham shirt, and should have been rewarded with a place in the England squad, and possibly his first senior cap for his country.
