West Ham United co-chairman David Gold has taken to Twitter to claim that the club could be in the Champions League in the next five years.
The Hammers endured a calamitous weekend, as having been 2-0 up against Watford inside 35 minutes, they collapsed to eventually lose 4-2 with some remarkably bad defending from Slaven Bilic’s side.

There are clearly some teething problems at the London Stadium, with two defeats in four competitive games at their new home, but West Ham still have loft ambitions moving forward.
After a summer which saw West Ham not only bring in exciting new attacking players such as Andre Ayew, Sofiane Feghouli and Gokhan Tore, but also keep star man Dimitri Payet at the club, fans were understandably excited about the bright new era in East London.

So far, it’s been a disappointment for West Ham; out of the Europa League before the group stage and three defeats from four Premier League games, with the dismay evident against Watford on Saturday.
With London rivals Arsenal and Tottenham both in Champions League action this week, along with last season’s shock Premier League champions Leicester City, West Ham fans had to watch on with nothing but dreams of reaching the competition – and supporters even asked co-chairman David Gold whether the club can reach the Champions League in the future.

Gold responded by saying that there is no reason why West Ham can’t be rubbing shoulders with Europe’s elite, with Leicester clear proof that anything is possible, even in an age of exorbitant spending in the Premier League.
Gold’s tweet came at a bad time considering West Ham have just three points so far this term and were frankly embarrassing defensively against Watford, and fans responded by saying more spending is needed for a Champions League qualification campaign, and joked that the club should focus on staying in the Premier League before targeting the top four.
